Custom polyurethane seals, machined to your drawing or sample
Polyurethane is the most widely used material for hydraulic seals: high mechanical strength, outstanding abrasion resistance and a wide hardness range. We supply CNC-machined PU seals in 10 grades, made by our specialist production partner.
Why polyurethane
High extrusion and wear resistance make PU the first choice for hydraulic rod and piston seals and wipers.
- Mineral oils, greases, water/oil mixtures
- Aliphatic hydrocarbons
- Very good ozone and oxidation resistance
- High extrusion resistance
Good to know
- Not for polar solvents, aromatics, brake fluids, acids or alkalis: ask us about PTFE or FKM instead
- Temperature limits depend on the grade: check the table below
Typical uses: Rod and piston seals, wipers, static seals, diaphragms.
Food contact: FDA grades available, including a metal & X-ray detectable grade. See detectable seals.
Choose the grade
Not sure which grade fits your application? Describe it in the quote form and we'll recommend one.
| Code | Grade | Colour | Hardness | Temp °C | Approvals | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BP-PU57-01 | Hard PU | Blue | Ask us | -30 / +90 | FDA | Quote → |
| BP-PU57-02 | Hard PU with MoS₂ | Grey | Ask us | -30 / +90 | — | Quote → |
| BP-PU90-01 | Low hardness PU | Light green | 90 Shore A | -30 / +115 | — | Quote → |
| BP-PU95-01 | Premium PU | Red | 95 Shore A | -30 / +125 | FDA | Quote → |
| BP-PU95-02 | PU with MoS₂, reduced friction | Grey | 95 Shore A | -30 / +105 | — | Quote → |
| BP-PU95-03 | Low temperature PU | Blue | 95 Shore A | -50 / +105 | FDA | Quote → |
| BP-PU95-04 | Chemical resistant PU | Violet | 95 Shore A | -30 / +115 | FDA | Quote → |
| BP-PU95-05 | High temperature PU | Orange | 95 Shore A | -20 / +135 | — | Quote → |
| BP-PU95-06 | Metal & X-ray detectable PU | Blue | 95 Shore A | -20 / +90 | FDADETECTABLE | Quote → |
| BP-PU95-07 | High performance PU | Blue | 95 Shore A | -30 / +125 | FDA | Quote → |
Temperature ranges are continuous operating limits for the material. Actual limits also depend on pressure, speed, media and seal design. Rows marked "Ask us" are being confirmed.

Common questions
Which polyurethane grade should I choose?
For most hydraulic rod and piston seals, a 95 Shore A grade is the starting point. Choose the low-temperature grade for cold climates, the high-temperature grade up to +135 °C, MoS₂ grades for reduced friction, and FDA or detectable grades for food processing. Describe your application and we'll recommend one.
When is PU the wrong choice?
Polyurethane is not suitable for polar solvents, aromatics, brake fluids, acids and alkalis, or continuous temperatures above its grade limit. PTFE or FKM are usually better there.
Do you have FDA polyurethane?
Yes: BP-PU57-01, BP-PU95-01, BP-PU95-03, BP-PU95-04, BP-PU95-06 and BP-PU95-07. BP-PU95-06 is also metal and X-ray detectable.
What is the minimum order?
It depends on the seal, but it's usually around 20 pieces. We'll confirm the minimum in your quote. There's no mould or tooling cost.
Can you make a PU replacement from a worn seal?
Yes. Use the Send a sample form. We'll email you a reference number and the shipping address in California or New York. Write the reference on the package.
